Rupee Hits Record Low Amid Economic Pressures
The Indian rupee, which is the money used in India, reached a new low point this week.
It went down to 89.45 against the dollar, which is the money used in the United States.
This happened because people who buy things from other countries put pressure on the rupee.
The Reserve Bank of India, which is like the money boss of India, tried to help by selling some of its dollars.
But the rupee is still having a hard time because India and the US haven't made a big trade deal yet.
If they don't make this deal soon, the rupee might go even lower.
The rupee has been the worst performing money compared to other countries in Asia this year.
But some people think that if India and the US make a trade deal, the rupee might get stronger for a little while.
After that, it might get weaker again because the Reserve Bank of India will start buying dollars to cover its own money moves.
Additionally, India's forex reserves decreased because the value of gold reserves went down.
The Indian rupee hit a new low of 89.45 against the dollar on Friday, with an intra-day low of 89.49.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) intervened through dollar sales to prevent further decline.
The rupee has fallen 4.46% so far this year, making it the worst-performing Asian currency in FY26.
Market participants warn that the rupee may breach 90 if the US-India trade deal is delayed.
The RBI's dollar short forward positions rose to $59.4 billion in September, with expectations to reach $70-72 billion by the end of November.
