Noney District Bans Hunting and Sale of Amur Falcons
Imagine birds that travel a very, very long way, like the Amur Falcons.
They come to a place called Noney district to rest.
Some people were hunting or selling these birds, which is not allowed.
So, the leaders of Noney district have made a new rule: no one can hunt, catch, kill, or sell these special birds anymore.
They also said that any air guns must be given to the village leaders.
This is to keep the birds safe while they are resting before their long journey back.
Scientists are also planning to put tiny trackers on some of these birds to learn more about their travels.
Noney district in Manipur has imposed a total ban on hunting, catching, killing, and selling of Amur Falcons and other migratory birds.
The ban is effective immediately and aims to stop illegal activities during the birds' roosting period.
Authorities have also banned air guns in the district, requiring their deposit with village authorities.
Amur Falcons, locally known as Akhuaipuina, have arrived in the district and are expected to roost until the end of November.
The Forest Department plans to tag three Amur Falcons with satellite transmitters for ongoing research.
