PSU Bank Stocks Surge on FDI Hopes
The stocks of government-owned banks (PSUs) went up.
This is because there's talk of the government letting foreign investors buy more shares.
Right now, they can only own up to 20%.
The government might raise this to almost 50%, but will still keep control of the banks.
This could bring more money into these banks.
Banks like SBI, Canara Bank, and Indian Bank did particularly well.
But not all banks performed equally.
PSU bank stocks jumped up to 4 percent on Wednesday, September 24.
The rally was triggered by reports of the government potentially allowing increased foreign investment in state-run banks.
The government may increase the FDI limit to allow up to 49% foreign ownership of PSU banks.
SBI and Canara Bank reached one-year high levels.
The Nifty PSU Bank index hit a new 52-week high.
