Delhi, Haryana to tackle Najafgarh drain pollution
The Delhi and Haryana governments are working together to clean up the Najafgarh drain, which is one of the biggest sources of pollution in the Yamuna river.
The drain carries a lot of dirty water and trash into the river, making it very polluted.
A special committee will study the problem and find ways to stop the dirty water from entering the drain.
The Delhi government has already started a plan to clean up the Yamuna, and they are using special machines to help clean the drain.
This is important because the polluted water can make people sick and harm the environment.
Delhi and Haryana governments are collaborating to reduce pollution in the Najafgarh drain, a major source of Yamuna river pollution.
The 57-km-long drain carries 600 MGD of untreated sewage and accounts for 70% of the Yamuna's total pollutant load.
A central committee, led by the Central Water Commission, will study the drain's capacity and explore ways to divert toxic water from Haryana regions.
Delhi has launched a 45-point action plan for Yamuna rejuvenation, with drain cleaning as a priority, and aims for in-situ treatment of waste.
Delhi Water Minister commissioned an amphibious dredger 'Watermaster' for Najafgarh drain cleaning, focusing on the 22-km polluted stretch from Wazirabad to Okhla.
