West Bengal Assembly Suspends Marshal for 'Inappropriate' Behaviour
The West Bengal Assembly is like a big meeting room where elected leaders make rules for the state.
To keep things peaceful, there is a helper called the Marshal.
His job is to help the Speaker stay organised, keep order when people get loud, and handle important papers.
Recently, several leaders complained that the Marshal behaved badly and did not do his job properly during a special training programme for new leaders.
Because of these complaints, the Assembly decided to suspend him, which means he cannot do his job for now.
This has never happened to a working Marshal in the history of the West Bengal Assembly.
A group of officials will now investigate what really happened.
Only after their report is ready will the Assembly decide if he should face more punishment.
So for now, the Marshal must wait while the investigation happens.
The West Bengal Assembly Secretariat suspended Marshal Debabrata Mukhopadhyay after several legislators complained of 'inappropriate' behaviour.
It is reportedly the first time in the history of the West Bengal Assembly that a serving Marshal has been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty.
The suspension order was issued by the Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday evening, with the news surfacing on Wednesday afternoon.
Complaints relate to Mukhopadhyay's conduct during a two-day orientation programme for newly elected legislators in the first week of July, chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
A departmental probe has been ordered against him, and further disciplinary proceedings will be decided after the probe report is submitted.
