Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Rs 6,477 Crore Jayakwadi Phase-II Funding
Maharashtra’s Cabinet approved more money to finish the second phase of a large irrigation project.
The project includes the Majalgaon Dam, canals, barrages and reservoirs.
It is expected to bring water for farming across five districts.
It may also help provide water for factories, fisheries and electricity generation.
The Cabinet also approved a system to help smaller government contractors receive payments faster.
Their dues are supposed to be paid within 180 days.
Late payments will require interest to be paid.
The government also approved a rehabilitation plan for Pandharpur.
The plan includes compensation and rent support for some affected shop owners and residents.
The Maharashtra Cabinet approved Rs 6,477.88 crore for Phase-II of the Jayakwadi irrigation project.
The phase is expected to irrigate about 1.31 lakh hectares across five districts and support industry, fisheries and power generation.
Works include completing the 454-million-cubic-metre Majalgaon Dam and a 148-km Majalgaon Right Bank Canal.
The Cabinet approved TReDS payments for small contractors, requiring dues to be paid within 180 days or attract interest.
A special rehabilitation policy for Pandharpur could accelerate Rs 3,993.90 crore in temple precinct and commercial development works.
