Key AIS Checks Before Filing 2026 Income Tax Return
When you need to file your taxes for the year 2026–2027, you have to submit a form called the Income Tax Return by July 31, 2026.
Before you click submit, you should look at a report called the Annual Information Statement, or AIS, that the government gets from banks, employers, and other places.
Check that the salary, taxes you paid, interest from banks, and any money you made from selling stocks or property all match what’s in the AIS.
If something is wrong, the government might send you a notice or give you a smaller refund.
Also make sure your personal details and any foreign money you have are correct.
Doing all these checks helps you file accurately and avoid problems later.
The ITR deadline for AY 2026–2027 is July 31, 2026.
Taxpayers must reconcile their AIS with salary, TDS, interest, capital gains, and high‑value transactions.
Mismatches in the AIS can trigger notices and reduce refunds.
Foreign income, overseas assets, and TDS credits must be verified for residents.
Personal details and the Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS) should be checked before final submission.
