Bandi Sanjay Demands Probe into Check Dam Failures
A union minister, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, wrote a letter to the Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, asking for a thorough investigation into the failures of check dams in the state.
He mentioned that many dams built during the previous government's time are collapsing because of poor construction and corruption.
One such dam, the Tanugula–Gumpula dam in Karimnagar, collapsed recently, and the minister blamed it on bad design and low-quality materials.
He also said that the same contractors who worked under the previous government are now working with the current government, and both are blaming each other to avoid taking responsibility.
The minister wants an independent agency to investigate all the dams and punish those responsible for the failures.
Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar demands an independent inquiry into check dam failures in Telangana.
The Tanugula–Gumpula dam in Karimnagar collapsed due to alleged poor construction and design flaws.
Bandi Sanjay alleges corruption and substandard execution in the construction of check dams.
A vigilance probe was ordered in May 2024 into 57 check dams on the Manair River, costing ₹287 crore.
The minister accuses both the previous BRS government and the current Congress government of negligence and playing a blame game.
