Government Approves Six-Lane Expansion for Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway
Imagine a very busy road between two cities, Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
This road is like a big highway called NH-65.
It used to be a two-lane road, which was dangerous and caused lots of traffic jams.
Then it was made into a four-lane road, but it still gets very crowded, especially when many people are traveling.
Now, the government has said 'yes' to making this road even bigger, with six lanes instead of four!
This means more cars can drive on it at the same time.
This big upgrade will make it much faster to travel between the cities, saving about two hours.
It should also make the road safer and less crowded for everyone, like drivers and people who transport goods.
The people who build and manage the road will start getting ready to begin the work soon.
The Central Government has approved the expansion of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway (NH-65) from four lanes to six lanes.
Land acquisition responsibilities have been assigned to Revenue Divisional Officers in Telangana and Joint Collectors in Andhra Pradesh.
The expansion is expected to reduce travel time between Hyderabad and Vijayawada by nearly two hours.
The 183-kilometer stretch is one of India's busiest roads, currently handling over 45,000 vehicles daily.
The project, developed by GMR Group, aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety.

Previous Highway Status
Proposed Six-Lane Expansion Benefits
Traffic Congestion
Previous Highway Status
The existing four-lane highway experiences significant congestion, especially during peak hours, festivals, and weekends, leading to long traffic jams. Over 45,000 vehicles use the route daily, a number that is increasing annually.
Proposed Six-Lane Expansion Benefits
The six-lane expansion is expected to significantly reduce travel time by approximately two hours and allow for smoother, free-flowing traffic, benefiting daily commuters and transporters.
Safety Concerns
Previous Highway Status
The highway, particularly when it was a two-lane road, had frequent and severe accidents. Despite the four-lane upgrade, accidents and congestion continued due to increased traffic and technical limitations.
Proposed Six-Lane Expansion Benefits
The upgraded six-lane highway is anticipated to be much safer with 'no major obstacles along the route' and improved traffic flow.
