S. Korean Financial Groups Post Record Profits in First Half
Big financial companies in South Korea made a lot of money in the first half of the year!
Four big groups like KB and Shinhan made a total of 10.33 trillion won.
This is because they made money from interest and other services, even though interest rates went down.
However, one company, Woori, made less money than before.
The government is worried about people owing too much money, so they told banks to lend less.
The companies are also buying back their own stocks to help their investors.
Four major South Korean financial holding companies reported record profits in the first half of 2025.
Combined net profit for KB Financial, Shinhan Financial, Hana Financial, and Woori Financial totaled 10.33 trillion won (US$7.47 billion).
KB, Shinhan, and Hana saw double-digit growth in net profit, while Woori's net profit decreased.
The financial groups earned a combined 21.09 trillion won in interest income despite declining interest rates.
Financial authorities instructed banks to halve household loan targets amid growing debt concerns.
