Kerala’s Onam Sales Surge Across Milk and Liquor

Onam is a major festival in Kerala.

Before the festival, people bought more milk and curd than during the same period last year.

Milma sold 1.46 crore litres of milk.

People also bought a lot more liquor through state-supported outlets.

Liquor sales reached Rs 126.31 crore on Uthradam, the day before the main celebrations.

Families used milk, curd and ghee to prepare traditional foods such as payasam and sadya.

Milma said it planned ahead and managed supplies to meet demand.

The figures show that many kinds of shopping increase during Onam.
