MSRTC Faces Widening Losses Despite New Buses and Fare Hikes
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is losing more money even after adding new buses and increasing fares.
In June 2026, they lost ₹91.18 crore, which is more than last year's ₹56.85 crore.
They also had to give discounts worth ₹431.12 crore to some passengers.
Even though they added 5,300 new buses, they are not getting more passengers or money.
Some people think the officials in charge should be held responsible for not making enough money.
MSRTC posted a loss of ₹91.18 crore in June 2026, up from ₹56.85 crore in June 2025.
Loss per kilometre increased from ₹3.51 in June 2025 to ₹5.69 in June 2026.
MSRTC provided passenger concessions worth ₹431.12 crore in June 2026 alone.
Despite adding 5,300 new buses, passenger traffic and revenue have declined.
MSRTC had recorded profits in April and May 2025 but reported losses in the same months in 2026.
