Hindi Diwas Honors Hindi’s Constitutional Status and Cultural Legacy

Hindi Diwas Honors Hindi’s Constitutional Status and Cultural Legacy

Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on September 14.

It remembers an important decision made in 1949.

On that day, India’s Constituent Assembly chose Hindi written in the Devanagari script as the official language of the Union.

The Constitution later included this provision in Article 343.

The first Hindi Diwas was observed in 1953.

Article 351 says the Union should help spread and develop Hindi.

Schools and offices celebrate with speeches, poems, essays, quizzes, debates, and cultural activities.

The day also highlights Hindi’s role in India’s shared cultural expression.
