Bangladesh Tribunal Sentences Police to Death
In Bangladesh, a court has sentenced three high-ranking police officers to death.
This is because they were involved in a serious incident where six people were killed.
The killings happened on August 5, 2024, during a time of big protests in the country.
The court found that these police officers planned and carried out the killings.
The trial included testimonies from many witnesses.
The officers said they were innocent, but the court decided they were guilty.
This is the second big verdict related to crimes during the protests last year.
A tribunal in Bangladesh sentenced three senior police officers to death for their roles in the Chankharpul massacre during the July-August 2024 uprising.
The officers sentenced to death are Habibur Rahman, Shudip Kumar Chakraborty, and Sha Alam.
Six people were killed in the Chankharpul area on August 5, 2024, when police opened fire on protesting students and civilians.
The trial included testimonies from 24 prosecution witnesses and three defence witnesses.
The prosecution argued that the killings were planned and systematic, while the defence claimed the charges were baseless.
