TikTok Faces Scrutiny Over Children's Data in Canada
Imagine a website like TikTok that many kids use.
Canadian officials checked if it was safe for kids.
They found that TikTok collected lots of info about kids and used it to show them ads.
The officials were worried because the website is supposed to keep kids off of the platform and protect their info.
TikTok agreed to change some things.
They will make it harder for kids to use the app and also make sure the kids know how their info is being used.
The company also said they are trying to make the platform safer for everyone.
Canadian investigation found TikTok inadequate in protecting children's data.
Hundreds of thousands of Canadian children accessed TikTok, despite age restrictions.
TikTok collected children’s personal info for online marketing and content targeting.
TikTok agreed to improve age-assurance and user data communication.
The company disagreed with some findings but is working to strengthen its platform.
