Reserve Bank Decision Could Force Tata Sons Listing

Reserve Bank Decision Could Force Tata Sons Listing

The Reserve Bank of India has rejected Tata Sons’ request to give up a special registration.

This means Tata Sons may now have to list its shares on stock exchanges.

Tata Sons is the main holding company of the Tata group.

Tata Trusts own 65.9% of the company and do not want it to be listed.

They worry that a listing could reduce their control.

Supporters of listing say it would make the company’s decisions easier to examine.

It could also clarify who is responsible for important decisions.

Tata Sons’ board is expected to discuss the issue on September 17.

The debate comes while the group is dealing with internal disagreements and losses at Air India.
