Auto Sales Reach August Records as Base Effect Looms Ahead

Auto Sales Reach August Records as Base Effect Looms Ahead

Vehicle companies sold more cars, scooters, motorcycles and three-wheelers in August 2026 than ever before for that month.

Car sales were especially strong, rising to more than 439,000 vehicles.

Two-wheelers and three-wheelers also reached record August levels.

Some of the large increase happened because sales were unusually low in August 2025.

Many people waited to buy vehicles because they expected GST tax cuts later.

Sales improved after the lower tax rates began.

Rural demand, consumer confidence and easier financing are still helping people buy vehicles.

The festive season may bring even more buyers.

However, future growth may look smaller because next year’s comparison will be against stronger sales figures.
