Mumbai MBA Student Allegedly Duped Of Rs 24.64 Lakh
A 21-year-old MBA student in Mumbai says a man pretending to be his school counsellor tricked him.
The man allegedly told him that his online exams had detected cheating.
He then threatened that the student would be banned and unable to study elsewhere.
The student says he had not cheated.
Believing the threats, he sent money to the man many times.
In total, he transferred Rs 24.64 lakh in 71 transactions.
The student later found out that he had passed his exams.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the allegations.
Police allege that Alok Keshari posed as an institute student counsellor and targeted 21-year-old MBA student Teerth Limani.
Keshari allegedly threatened Limani with debarment and blacklisting after online examinations flagged suspected cheating.
Limani transferred Rs 24.64 lakh to two bank accounts in 71 transactions, allegedly believing the money would resolve the issue.
Limani later passed the examinations and realised he had allegedly been deceived when Keshari continued demanding money.
Bangur Nagar police registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
