Delhi Court Dismisses National Herald Case
A court in Delhi decided not to take action on a case about money laundering involving Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others.
The court said the case was not properly started because it was based on a complaint from a private person, not an official police report.
The court allowed the investigating agency to keep looking into the matter but said they can't take any legal action right now.
The case is about a company called National Herald and some financial dealings that the government agency, the Enforcement Directorate, thinks might be illegal.
The court's decision means the accused people can't be tried in court for this case at this time.
The Congress party said the case was politically motivated and baseless, while the ED plans to appeal the decision.
A Delhi court dismissed the money laundering complaint against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others in the National Herald case on 16 December 2025.
The court ruled that the Enforcement Directorate's case was not maintainable as it was based on a private complaint by Subramanian Swamy, not a First Information Report (FIR).
The court allowed the ED to continue its investigation but stated that cognisance cannot be taken at this stage.
The accused include Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Suman Dubey, Sam Pitroda, Sunil Bhandari, Young Indian, and Dotex Merchandise.
The case involves allegations of fraudulently acquiring properties worth approximately ₹2,000 crore belonging to Associated Journals Limited (AJL).
