8th Pay Commission Pension Debate Intensifies as Employees Seek Guarantees

The 8th Pay Commission studies how government employees should be paid and supported after retirement.

It was created on 3 November 2025 and is led by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.

Several employee groups are worried that contributory pensions may not provide enough guaranteed money after retirement.

They want some employees moved back to the Old Pension Scheme.

Under that type of system, pensions are linked to the employee’s final salary.

One group has asked for a pension equal to 50% of the last pay drawn.

Other groups want a guaranteed minimum pension and better family pensions.

The Commission is expected to give its report to the government around May or June 2027.
