Queens Baby's Death: SIDS, Not Dog Attack, Preliminary Reports Say
A baby girl in Queens, named Kiyanna, passed away recently.
At first, it looked like the family dog might have hurt her.
But, the doctors now think she died from SIDS, which is when babies suddenly stop breathing.
The dog did bite her after she had already died.
Her parents were very sad and said she was fine when they went to sleep.
They are now waiting for more tests to know for sure what happened.
Police are still checking everything to understand the situation better.
One-month-old Kiyanna Winfield was found dead in her home in Queens.
Initially, police believed the infant died from a dog mauling by the family's pit bull-German Shepherd mix.
The New York City Office of the Medical Examiner confirmed the dog's bites came after the baby had died, and the cause of death is pending.
The parents stated they believe their daughter died from SIDS and had a heart murmur.
The family's apartment has been locked by police during the ongoing investigation; no charges have been filed.
