Govt Plans to Improve Rice Quality, Manage Wheat, and Sugar Exports
The government is making a plan to sort rice into different types.
They will separate rice with not much broken pieces (less than 10%) from rice with more broken pieces.
The better rice will be sold in the open market, possibly to stores later.
Broken rice will be sold to factories that make alcohol.
This is to help sell more rice since they have extra, and it will make the good rice more valuable.
They also have plenty of wheat, so they don't need to sell any of that right now.
Government plans to segregate broken rice in 50 lakh tonnes of FCI stock.
Pilot project successful in four states last year, now expanding nationally.
Goal is to reduce broken grain percentage to improve rice quality.
Rice with 10% broken grain will be auctioned; broken rice to distilleries.
Wheat supply adequate; no need for open market sales scheme.
