Bangladesh Calls for Dialogue to Resolve Water-Sharing Disputes

Bangladesh Calls for Dialogue to Resolve Water-Sharing Disputes

Bangladesh and India share many rivers, but they have disagreements about how some water should be shared.

Bangladesh minister Humaiun Kobir said the countries should keep talking and use diplomacy to find solutions.

He said leaders on both sides need to be willing to cooperate.

He also said international law is being considered.

Bangladesh has created a committee to study the issues, and India is reviewing them too.

The countries share 54 rivers.

The Teesta disagreement is separate from their Ganges water-sharing treaty.

That treaty is due to end in December 2026.
