Tomato Glut Strains Space and Operations at Indore Mandi

Tomato Glut Strains Space and Operations at Indore Mandi

Many more tomatoes than usual are arriving at Choithram mandi in Indore.

The extra supply is linked to better production in nearby areas.

The city uses about 5,000 to 7,000 crates of tomatoes each day.

However, the mandi is receiving more crates than buyers currently need.

This has left too little space for storing and arranging the crates.

Trucks and workers are taking longer to load and unload the tomatoes.

Traders also say garbage is creating bad smells and possible health problems.

They want more space, cleaner facilities, and a review of how mandi fees are collected.
