Satish Gujral Self‑Portrait Issued as Rs 5 Stamp
Satish Gujral was a famous Indian painter who made only a few self‑portraits in his life.
In 2010 he painted one that shows him sitting on a sofa with a paintbrush.
The Indian postal service decided to turn that picture into a Rs 5 stamp to celebrate his 100th birthday.
The stamp will be sent out to everyone in India.
It is a way to honor his art and let people see his work on everyday mail.
Satish Gujral’s 2010 self‑portrait will be issued as a Rs 5 postage stamp.
The stamp celebrates the artist’s centenary and will be released on Monday.
Gujral painted only four self‑portraits during his career, making this one rare.
The stamp image shows him on a sofa holding a paintbrush, with a black‑and‑white face and arms.
An earlier portrait of Lala Lajpat Rai was rejected, leading Jawaharlal Nehru to commission Gujral for portraits of himself and Indira Gandhi.
