Mumbai Commission Orders Thane Developer Refund
A couple in Mumbai paid a lot of money to book a plot of land in 2017.
The developers promised to register the agreement but kept delaying it.
After many years, the couple asked for their money back, but the developers didn't give it.
So, the couple went to the Consumer Commission.
The Commission said the developers were wrong and ordered them to give back the money with interest, plus extra money for the trouble and legal costs.
The developers have to pay ₹7,92,300 back, plus 9% interest every year, ₹50,000 for the couple's stress, and ₹10,000 for legal fees.
Mumbai Consumer Commission ordered Thane developer to refund ₹7,92,300 for delay in sale agreement registration.
Complainants paid ₹7,92,300 for a 1,790 sq. ft. plot in 2017 but faced repeated delays in registration.
Developers cited 'technical issues' and failed to provide a valid justification for the delay.
Commission directed the developer to pay 9% annual interest on the refund amount, ₹50,000 for mental agony, and ₹10,000 for litigation costs.
The bench held the developers guilty of unfair trade practices for failing to register the agreement within a reasonable period.
