EU Plan on Frozen Russian Assets Sparks Warnings
The European Union has a plan to use money from frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine.
They want to borrow money using the profits from these frozen assets and give it to Ukraine for its defense.
The plan is not to take the assets directly but to use the money they make from them.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is not happy about this.
He says it's like stealing and that it will hurt the trust in the eurozone.
He also warned that Russia will do something in return if the EU goes ahead with this plan.
The EU says they will show the legal details of this plan very soon.
However, the Belgian Prime Minister, Bart De Wever, has warned that this plan could make it harder to reach a peace deal with Russia in the future.
He said that moving forward with this plan too quickly could damage the chances for peace.
EU plans to borrow against profits from frozen Russian assets to fund a €140 billion loan for Ukraine.
Putin warns of retaliatory measures if the EU proceeds with the plan.
Putin criticizes the EU proposal as 'theft of someone else’s property'.
EU denies confiscating assets, stating they will only borrow against profits.
Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever warns that the plan could jeopardize future peace deals with Russia.
