Chandigarh and Himachal Expand Healthcare in 2026
In Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, government hospitals are planning big changes for 2026.
They want to make things easier for patients by using more computers and technology.
This includes online appointments, sending test results to phones, and reducing long waits.
They are also building new buildings and centers to help more people.
For example, PGIMER is planning a new neuroscience block, a center for mothers and babies, and a special care block.
GMCH-32 is working on a new center for mothers and children, and they are also planning to add CT scan and MRI machines.
In Himachal Pradesh, they are expanding robotic surgery to all medical colleges and setting up special centers for bone marrow transplants and pediatric care.
They are also making sure elderly people and children get the care they need.
All these changes are meant to make healthcare better and more accessible for everyone in these states.
PGIMER Chandigarh plans to build a state-of-the-art Advanced Neurosciences Block, a Maternal and Child Care Centre, and a 150-bedded Critical Care Block in 2026.
PGIMER also proposes to establish an MBBS undergraduate medical college and satellite centres at Una and Ferozpur to decentralize tertiary care.
The Hospital Information System (HIS) 2.0 upgrade is planned for 2026, aiming to reduce patient waiting times and introduce online appointments and a mobile app for hospital services.
Digitisation of health services has been completed in all 48 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and will be extended to GMSH-16 and civil hospitals, reducing the need for physical cards and long queues.
GMCH-32 is working on a new 251-bed Mother and Child Centre expected to open in March 2026, and plans to introduce CT scan and MRI facilities under the PPP model, along with a next-generation E-hospital.
Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu plans to expand robotic surgery to all medical colleges in the state by 2026, with facilities already operational at AIMSS Chamiana and Tanda Medical College.
Himachal Pradesh has allocated Rs 5 crore each to five medical institutions for bone marrow transplant infrastructure and Rs 75 crore for AI-equipped smart labs to reduce diagnostic wait times.
The state has also established dedicated senior citizen OPDs and plans to set up an Advanced Pediatric Centre at AIMSS Chamiana to provide world-class child healthcare services.
