Supreme Court Upholds Rajasthan Election Timeline
The Supreme Court of India has decided to keep the schedule set by the Rajasthan High Court for local body elections.
This means that the elections for Panchayati Raj Institutions and Municipalities in Rajasthan must be completed by April 15, 2026.
A person named Sanyam Lodha, who is a Congress leader and former MLA, had asked the Supreme Court to change this schedule.
He argued that elections should be held immediately after the current term ends and that the process of drawing new boundaries for voting areas (called delimitation) should not delay the elections.
However, the Supreme Court agreed with the Rajasthan High Court that the delimitation process is important and should be finished before the elections.
The state government of Rajasthan also agreed to follow the timeline set by the High Court.
