India's National Geothermal Energy Policy Unveiled
Imagine the Earth as a giant oven.
Geothermal energy uses the heat from deep inside the Earth to make electricity.
India has many hot springs where this heat comes to the surface.
The government has created a new plan to use this energy.
This plan will help find and use geothermal energy in places like the Himalayas.
It aims to boost India's use of renewable energy and make sure there is enough energy for everyone.
Though costly at first, India hopes to be a major player in geothermal energy in the future.
The MNRE released a National Policy on Geothermal Energy.
Geothermal energy uses Earth's internal heat to generate electricity.
India has 381 mapped hot springs, showing geothermal potential.
Estimated geothermal potential is 10.6 GW, key sites include the Himalayas.
The policy supports research and development and aims for energy security.
