MP Raises Concerns Over Mid-Day Meal Funds in Darjeeling, Kalimpong
Raju Bista, the MP from Darjeeling, recently spoke in Parliament about a problem with the PM POSHAN Scheme, which gives free meals to school children.
He said that even though the government has given a lot of money (Rs 77 crore) to Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts since 2019, only a little bit (Rs 48.03 crore) has been used.
This is a big problem because the money is meant to feed children in schools.
There are many schools in these districts that benefit from the scheme, and the government has also built many kitchen-cum-store units to help with the meals.
Mr. Bista is asking the local government to use all the money given by the central government to make sure children get their meals.
MP Raju Bista raised concerns in Parliament about the low utilisation of PM POSHAN funds in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.
Since 2019, Rs 77 crore has been released for the districts, but only Rs 48.03 crore has been utilised.
The PM POSHAN Scheme covers over 11 crore children across 10.35 lakh schools nationwide.
In Darjeeling, 1,017 schools benefit 20,382 children, while in Kalimpong, 463 schools cater to 15,056 children.
The Centre has constructed 1,072 kitchen-cum-store units in Darjeeling and 358 in Kalimpong to support the scheme.
