XFG COVID-19 Variant Detected in India, Symptoms and Impact
A new version of the COVID-19 virus, called XFG, has been detected in India.
It's a mix of two earlier variants.
Common symptoms include hoarseness and a dry cough.
While it may spread quicker, vaccines are effective in preventing severe illness, and there is no evidence that XFG leads to severe illness or higher mortality.
The XFG COVID-19 variant has been detected in over 150 cases across India.
XFG is a recombinant subvariant of SARS-CoV-2, formed from the LF.7 and LP.8.1.2 strains.
Maharashtra has the highest number of XFG cases, followed by Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, and other states.
Hoarseness and a dry cough are common symptoms associated with XFG.
Vaccines continue to provide protection against severe disease and hospitalization.
