SC orders Bihar to clear Ganga encroachments

The Supreme Court of India has ordered the Bihar government to remove all illegal constructions and encroachments along the Ganga river in Patna within six weeks.

The court noted that despite previous orders, no action had been taken by the state authorities.

The petitioner, Ashok Kumar Sinha, had filed a plea against a National Green Tribunal order that dismissed his complaint about illegal constructions on the river's floodplains.

The court also warned the states to provide necessary information or face strict action.
