Mumbai Mayor Criticizes CJP Amid October 2 Protest Dispute

Mumbai’s mayor criticized a group called the Cockroach Janta Party, or CJP.

She said the group acts in a way that helps Congress and that people are watching.

CJP wanted to hold a protest at Shivaji Park on October 2.

Mumbai Police did not allow the protest at that location.

Police said there are rules limiting gatherings there and that the organizers had not obtained required permission from the BMC.

They also worried about noise and traffic near homes and hospitals.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the group would hold a “Jail Bharo Andolan” if it could not protest.

The group wants action involving the Election Commission, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and electoral-roll changes.
