IIT Roorkee Develops AI for Modi Script Transliteration
IIT Roorkee made an AI that can read the old Modi script and change it into the Devanagari script, which is used today for languages like Hindi.
This helps convert old documents from the medieval period into a modern format.
The AI was taught using many pictures of Modi script and the matching text in Devanagari.
Modi script was used a long time ago to write Marathi.
This new AI can help researchers read many historical documents, but making it was tricky because the script is complex.
Researchers are working on adding more data to improve it further.
IIT Roorkee created the first AI model to transliterate the Modi script into Devanagari.
The AI model can convert unseen Marathi text (Modi script) to Devanagari.
The AI was trained using a dataset of over 2,000 images of Modi script and Devanagari text.
Modi script was used for Marathi writing during the medieval period, used in land records, etc.
Challenges included the script's cursive nature and a limited dataset for training the model.
