AI Founders Leave Bezos-Backed Prometheus to Model Physics

Anima Anandkumar and Benedikt Jenik built a new kind of artificial intelligence.

Most popular AI systems learn from words and try to predict what word comes next.

Their system instead studies how things in the physical world change over time and space.

The company says it processed 5 trillion pieces of data in one test.

This could help businesses design computer chips, operate robots, predict severe weather and study underground information.

The pair had been offered important roles and a large ownership stake in Jeff Bezos-backed Project Prometheus.

They decided to continue building their own company instead.

Prometheus later raised $12 billion in a Series B financing round.

The new company plans to sell its technology to businesses rather than consumers at first.
