Mexican President to Give Away World Cup Opening Match Ticket
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has decided not to use her special ticket for the very first game of the 2026 World Cup.
This game will be played in Mexico City.
Instead of going herself, she wants to give this special ticket to a young girl who loves soccer but can't afford to go to the game.
She said this is to help a girl dream about playing soccer.
Mexico City's stadium has a special history with the World Cup, having hosted opening games before.
The president also mentioned that other cities in Mexico hosting games are getting ready.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum will not attend the 2026 World Cup opening match.
She will give her premium ticket (number 00001) to a young female football fan.
The opening match is scheduled for June 11 and will be co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the US.
The Azteca Stadium in Mexico City will be the first venue to host three World Cup opening matches.
