Himachal Pradesh Faces ₹1,177.89 Crore Debt from Power Producers
Imagine some companies that make electricity owe a lot of money to the government in Himachal Pradesh, about 1,177 crore rupees.
This money is for things like checking out the land and planning the projects.
The biggest part of this debt, over 874 crore rupees, comes from one specific project called Baspa.
The government is trying to get the money back, but it's taking a while because they can't agree on how much interest to charge.
The government is also fighting in court to get back another project called Shanan and to receive money from a different board.
They hope to get even more money from another company soon.
The government is also looking at a hydel project that has run for 40 years and may return to the state.
Over 20 independent power producers owe ₹1,177.89 crore to Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board.
The Baspa project alone accounts for ₹874.69 crore of the debt.
The government is seeking legal recourse to recover the funds.
The Supreme Court will hear cases related to the Shanan project and BBMB arrears.
The state may receive additional income from JSW Company and is reviewing the Baira Siul hydel project.
