Banking Drag Pulls Sensex, Nifty Lower
On Monday, the stock markets in India, known as Sensex and Nifty, went down.
This happened because big bank stocks like HDFC Bank and Axis Bank had a bad day.
Investors were worried about the banks' profits and the rising tensions between the US and Iran.
The Sensex fell by 442.93 points, and the Nifty dropped by 95.80 points.
Some other stocks like Maruti and Infosys also did poorly, but a few like Trent and Bharti Airtel did better.
The price of oil also went up a bit because of the tensions in the Middle East.
Smaller and mid-sized company stocks did a little better than the big ones.
Sensex declined by 442.93 points, or 0.57%, to settle at 77,708.52.
Nifty edged lower by 95.80 points, or 0.39%, to end at 24,238.50.
Axis Bank was the biggest loser, dropping by 5.48% after its quarterly results.
HDFC Bank declined by 5.12% due to weaker-than-expected net interest margins.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude traded lower by 0.05% to USD 88.06 per barrel.
