Ministry Demands Action on Land Record Tampering for Road Project
Imagine the government wants to build a road in a forest.
But, they are supposed to only build roads on land that is not a forest.
Some people checked the area and found that officials had changed the land records to make it seem like the forest wasn't a forest anymore.
The government said they could build the road, but they have to take care of the environment.
They also need to plant trees somewhere else to make up for the trees they cut down, and also address any complaints from the public.
The Union Environment Ministry demands action against revenue officials.
Officials allegedly altered land records to portray forest land as non-forest.
The issue surfaced during a proposal to divert forest land for a road in Shivamogga.
Conditional approval was given for the road project with directives for environmental safeguards.
The Ministry instructed compensatory afforestation and addressed citizen concerns.
