Mumbai: Mithi River Desilting Contractors Replaced, Deadline Missed
The city of Mumbai is trying to clean up the Mithi River to prevent flooding during the monsoon season, but they're behind schedule.
The companies hired to do the work stopped, so the city hired new ones.
The goal is to remove a lot of mud and dirt from the river by the end of June.
About two-thirds of the cleaning is done, and the city is working hard to catch up, aiming to finish most of the work by the end of June.
BMC hired two new contractors to complete Mithi River desilting by end of June.
The desilting of the 18-km Mithi River twice missed its completion deadlines.
Completion of desilting in Mumbai is currently at 63.86%, a 5% increase in 10 days.
Previous contractors stopped work after their management absconded.
BMC aimed to remove 2.14 lakh Metric Tonnes (MT) of silt and has removed 1.36 lakh MT.
