ED Probes Pakistani National's Voter Fraud in West Bengal
Imagine a man named Azad who is from Pakistan but somehow got a voter ID card in India.
He voted twice using this card.
Now, the government is looking into how he got this card in the first place.
He admitted he first became a citizen of Bangladesh using fake papers, then used fake documents to become an Indian citizen.
This has made the government very concerned about foreign people being able to vote in the state.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating how Azad Mullick, a Pakistani citizen, secured an EPIC card.
Mullick voted twice using the card: in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The ED is examining the documents Mullick provided to obtain the card.
Mullick admitted to being a Pakistani national who obtained Bangladeshi citizenship and Indian identity documents using forged papers.
This case has intensified the debate over foreign nationals' voter registration in West Bengal.
