US Imposes 10% Tariff on Indian Exports Over Forced Labour Concerns
The United States has decided to put a 10% tax on many things India sells to them, saying it's because some of those things might be made using forced labour.
But a group called GTRI says this tax doesn't make sense because the US hasn't shown good proof that this is happening.
India has already changed its rules to stop buying things made with forced labour, but the US tax will still affect a lot of Indian exports.
This tax might also be a way for the US to keep old taxes in place, according to GTRI.
Some Indian products will still have higher taxes, while others won't be taxed extra.
The US imposed a 10% tariff on 70% of Indian exports over forced labour concerns.
GTRI argues the tariff lacks evidence and is politically motivated.
India amended its trade policy in June 2026 to prohibit forced labour imports.
The tariff was reduced from an initially proposed 12.5% to 10%.
8% of Indian exports will continue to face existing tariffs of 25% to 50%.
