Indian-Origin Truck Driver Not Intoxicated in Fatal California Crash
A young truck driver from India named Jashanpreet Singh was in a big accident in California that sadly killed three people.
At first, police thought maybe he had been drinking or using drugs.
But after checking his blood, they found out he was not drunk or high at all.
Even though he wasn't intoxicated, the police still say he was driving very carelessly and too fast, which caused the accident.
His family also said he would never use drugs because of his religion.
He had come to the US without permission and was waiting for a hearing about his immigration status when the crash happened.
US authorities confirmed that Indian-origin truck driver Jashanpreet Singh was not intoxicated during a fatal crash in California.
Singh, 21, was arrested on October 21 and faces charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and reckless driving.
Toxicology reports showed no intoxicating substances in Singh's blood at the time of the incident.
Despite ruling out intoxication, prosecutors maintain the crash was a result of grossly negligent homicide.
Singh is an illegal immigrant who entered the US in 2022 and was released pending an immigration hearing.
