Ujjain Mosque Committee Warns Against Fraudulent Repair Donations

Ujjain Mosque Committee Warns Against Fraudulent Repair Donations

The Shahi Masjid in Ujjain is being repaired as part of a road-widening project.

During work to remove a large minaret, a crane belt broke and debris damaged the mosque’s roof.

The mosque committee says it is paying for the repairs itself.

It says it has not asked anyone for donations.

But people are reportedly asking for money using barcodes, online posts and visits to neighbourhoods.

Committee president Abdul Mannan told people to check with the committee before giving money.

He said the committee may file a police report if it gets evidence.

Nearby roads that were closed for seven days have reopened, though the area beside the mosque remains barricaded.
