BJP Wins BMC Elections
The BJP won the most seats in the recent civic elections in Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai.
They got 89 seats in the BMC, but they need 114 to have a majority.
The Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, won 29 seats and is their ally.
Another group of Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray, won 65 seats.
The Congress, MNS, AIMIM, NCP, and Samajwadi Party also won some seats.
The BJP did well in many other cities too, like Pune, Nagpur, and Nashik.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) said they will keep fighting for the respect of Marathi people.
The next mayor of Mumbai is still not decided and will be chosen by a lottery system based on reservation categories.
The BJP says the mayor will be from their party, but the Shiv Sena also wants the position.
Eknath Shinde moved newly elected Shiv Sena corporators to a hotel to prevent defections.
The BJP-led alliance has a slim majority of 118 seats, while the opposition has 106 seats.
The BJP is expected to have its mayor in Mumbai for the first time, ending the Thackerays' decades-old dominance.
BJP won 89 seats in the BMC elections, the most of any party, but needs 114 for a majority.
