Italy Fines Shein €1 Million for Deceptive Environmental Claims
Shein, a fast-fashion company, was fined by Italy's government for not being truthful about its environmental claims.
The Italian government, AGCM, said Shein's statements about recycling and eco-friendly materials were unclear or false.
Shein also promised to reduce pollution, but its emissions actually increased.
Because of this, AGCM issued a fine.
The government is making sure companies are careful about what they say regarding environmental impact.
Italian regulator AGCM fined Shein 1 million euros for misleading environmental claims.
The fine was issued to Infinite Styles Services Co. Limited, Shein's European website operator.
AGCM found Shein's environmental sustainability messages to be vague and misleading.
The regulator cited issues with Shein's claims on recyclability and its 'evoluSHEIN' collection.
Shein's emission reduction commitments were contradicted by increased emissions in 2023 and 2024.
