Meghalaya Seeks Expanded EAP Funds, National Games Support
Meghalaya wants more money for development projects supported by loans and aid from outside India.
The state currently has an allocation of Rs 5,000 crore and wants it increased to Rs 10,000 crore.
It may later seek an allocation of Rs 15,000 crore.
Meghalaya will host the 2027 National Games and is asking the central government for money and building support.
Other northeastern states are expected to take part in events.
The state also wants NEIGRIHMS in Shillong to receive a special national status.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma discussed these requests with central ministers.
The ministers said the proposals would be examined, with detailed plans expected after the Assembly session.
Meghalaya has asked the Centre to double its externally aided projects allocation from Rs 5,000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore.
The state has also sought financial and infrastructure assistance for the 2027 National Games.

Sangma said the state could eventually seek an EAP allocation of Rs 15,000 crore after initially requesting Rs 10,000 crore.
He renewed Meghalaya’s demand for Institute of National Importance status for NEIGRIHMS and better local recruitment opportunities.
