ShinyHunters Claim FBI Personnel Data Stolen, Reuters Finds Uncertainty

A hacking group called ShinyHunters said it had stolen information about many FBI agents, their spouses and job applicants.

The group claimed the information came from FBI systems.

Reuters checked some of the alleged records.

The checks used credit bureau records and older leaked data.

In at least nine cases, names, addresses and Social Security numbers matched.

However, a match does not prove where the information came from.

Reuters could not confirm that FBI computers were hacked.

The true size and source of the alleged theft remain unclear.
