Rescued Elephant Calf Rejected by Herd in Odisha’s Angul
Imagine a baby elephant was playing in the mud and got stuck!
Its family had to keep walking, and they couldn't find it.
Some nice people from the forest department found the baby elephant, gave it some yummy drinks, and made sure it was okay.
Then, they tried to help it find its mommy and daddy again.
They even rubbed mud on the baby so it would smell like its family.
But sadly, when the baby tried to go back to its herd, they didn't recognize it or accept it.
Now the forest people will take care of the baby elephant.
An elephant calf became trapped in a muddy paddy field in Odisha's Angul district after its herd entered a village.
Forest officials rescued the calf, which was weak and dehydrated, and took it to a nursery for medical treatment.
After recovering, officials attempted to reunite the calf with its herd by smearing it with elephant dung to mask human scent.
The herd rejected the calf, refusing to accept it back despite its attempts to rejoin them.
Forest officials will continue to care for the calf and seek options for its future rehabilitation.
